The Twilight War: Responcibility

Edit to the past due to crossover influence from the KoE game:

1) About October 20th (3 days after the explosion) Leigh comes back to
the house one day, seriously freaked. She comes and sits and Ryan's
room until he ceases dancing and then she curls up against him,
letting him just hold her as she cries and shakes. This goes on for
about three days during which anyone with any empathy probably picks
up the fringes but she doesnt talk about it. During the day she just
works (and works and works). Then she goes emotionally flat, worn
out.

2) It was noted that Chinatown survived the disaster *untouched*.
Despite the fact that the next door financial district was nearly
levelled, the destruction stopped at the gates.

3) Also, the Blood Cultists do some unspeakable things in Arlington
Heights to a few innocent civilians. But funny how that never made it
into the news...

Other things that have been happening:

1) The healing in the house goes on. After a few days it is not going
well. Much of Leigh's efforts, even if they are curative cause her
patients much pain.

After the first few days the type of injuries she is seeing changes.
It moves from burn victems to people with any number of diseases
caused by unsanitary conditions and to people who were injured as they
tried to clear fallen rubble.

She sees an increasing number of drug cases. Very few of them are Bliss.

2) Niccolo continues to be Arcane Boy and hide in the basement.

3) Ryan starts "taking care of himself". He only dangles from meat
hooks every other day and when he does, he actually starts bandaging
himself instead of wandering around bleeding on the house. On his off
days he is dancing.

4) Ali drops by occasionally to bring supplies to the house. She
actually gets to set foot in the house! Once into the third week, she
usually shows up wearing black jeans, a black shirt, a jacket instead
of the usual suit. If asked, she explains that it is easier to keep
clean.

5) The utilities in Boston proper are gone. Electricty, gas, cellnet
and landline phoes are all out. However, in the surrounding
communities, things are a little better. Electricity came back on
after a few days. Cellphones and landlines phones work, to varying
degrees, depending on location. Gas for heating and cooking had been
turned off but its slowing being turned back on. Occasionally there
is a pressure surge and someone gets burned in the explosion. Leigh
sees an occasional one of these.

Sometime during the third week of hell (aka the week of November 7th)
the following things occur.

It starts out with Burko deciding to go out and try and find some of
the likely-to-explode phloehegen (sp?) pipes (read: gas mains). He
goes into the sewers, looking for gas mains but, funny, they dont run
gas pipes through the sewers. Instead he winds up nearly swimming
until he encounters a small group of people. (The description Avon
remembers is: one is a preist, one has a crossbow and there is a woman
named Catherine, but that is incomplete.) They inform him that the
sewers is not a great place to be and they lead him out, through a
room with a VERY impressive array of armament. Once Burko is out, he
forgets all of that. He then wanders around the city for several
hours, finds a few broken phloehegen (sp?) pumps and fixes them.

Meanwhile, Ali has gotten an email from Agent Smith informing her,
among other things, that there will be a raid tonight to pick up Karen
McLaney. Attached to that memo is a good deal of information on Bliss
and the operations in the Hancock with a note that it took "intensive
interrogation" for this information to be acquired and at least two
agents were compromised in this investigation and had to be
terminated. The most interesting bit of information is that for long
term users of Bliss, it changes their psyiological pattern in some
unquantified but noticable way. There is a aurelian (sp? I forget
this word...) photograph of a long term Bliss user attached and it
shows that the person has strands of energy leading away from them....
Agent Smith suggests that some of Ali's charges might be useful in the
raid, given their experience and senses that are different than the
Order's. So, Ali goes over to the house.

Ali knocks and Leigh answers. Ali asks Leigh if she would be willing
to join her in a mission to go after one of the creators of this
Bliss. Leigh says yes. They talk for a bit and then Ryan comes down,
giving Ali a first look at his scars. He also agrees to come. She
shows them the photgraph and they identify it as being "like Lyle".

Ali agrees to pick them up at five with the equipment they will need.
They spend the interveneing time resting and preparing. Around 4:30,
Burko comes back. He goes to his room and a huge iron door appears
there, locking him in. The Ryan tries breifly to open it and it
doesn't open. A voice announces that "lock down will be in 15
minutes" and Ryan and Leigh decide its time to LEAVE. Ryan decides
that he can work his magic in the back of Ali's van and he doesn't
need his room. As they leave, they look at the house and it has grown
iron bars, to keep someone, presumably Burko, in. Ryan and Leigh try
to explain to Ali that "reality" is annoyed at Burko. Ali, who is not
very familiar with vulgar magick, fails to get it. They drive off
right as Burko breaks the bars on his window and jumps out.

(Burko then goes to the Hancock tower and just watches. His cronicle
has split from Leigh, Ryan and Ali's at this point so I am not sure
what happened to him in detail.)

Meanwhile, Ali drives Leigh and Ryan to the staging area in Lexington.
Ryan sets up his hooks in the back of the van. Agent Smith and his
van follow Ali's van out there.

They stop long enough for Agent Smith to apprise Ali, Ryan and Leigh
of the plan (which consists of Ali using her keys and going into the
appartment with Agent Smith and Leigh following and the rest of the
squad with the firepower following after them. They are going to try
not to kill her.) Right about this time Leigh figures out just WHICH
maker of Bliss they are going after.

So, Ali leads the way into the appartment and has a breif discussion
with Karen about dinner before "introducing" her to Agent Smith and
Leigh (DEVIANT!). Outside, Ryan is strengthening the tapestry and
monitoring the "web" that seems to feed into Karen. There is a breif
discussion, enough for Karen to go on the defensive, about her work
(in which she blatently lies) and then she goes to the liquor cabinet,
pours herself a glass of something and flings it at Agent Smith and
Leigh. Agent Smith is suddenly five feet away. Leigh takes it full
in the face. Bad Things start happening to her and she runs out of
the room. Karen tells Ali to run as she leaps at Agent Smith, gaining
claws and huge teeth. Ali pulls her gun and misses. Agent Smith and
Karen get into a roll around on the floor battle. Ali, and the rest
of the squad, can't get a clear shot. Ryan goes for his scissors.

Leigh runs down the stairs and finds the medic in the rear. She had
been using her herbal stuff on her wound. The doctor pshaws at that
and calls for a medivac and starts spraying her with strange things.

Then, Agent Smith flings Karen's body from him. He looks mauled.
Karen is dead. Agent Smith touches his faces and skin grows back.
Ali has had her weirdness quotient for the day and she ignores him.
She goes over to Karen's body and drops her wedding ring on it and
then turns and walks out. Agent Smith calls for cleanup.

Leigh is medivacced out to a NWO clinic of some sort. Ryan is
dehooked and waiting when Ali and Smith come out. Ali doesn't have
much to say to Agent Smith but he tells her to take a few days off.
They leave as the Men in White show up for clean up.

Ali takes Ryan to Carol's house. Ali goes to NWO HQ, sends email off
to the doctors/medics asking if any of them has spare time if they
will swing by Nic's place (address given) and see to the patients
there. She also sends email to the team she has a date with in three
days informing them that she will need a postponement. And then she
goes off (see separate story).

The next morning, after being pumped full of "broad spectrum
antibiotics", Leigh is released with a warning to keep the wound
clean. She calls Ryan. Ryan calls Ali. They come and pick her up.
Ryan and Leigh badger Ali into taking them to the Berkshires for a few
days R&R. With some help from her "badge", Ali gets them through the
roadblocks and to the mountain, leaving Burko, Nic and countless
patients at back at the house.

(The details of the story in the mountain will be hacked out on email.)
