Rachel grew up in Dorchester. From a young age, she was never a good student and she made her friends among the "trouble" kids. She was barely a teenager when she started on drugs and she was soon dealing to support her habit. She was arrested when she was 14 for dealing on school property and sentenced to rehab and 5 years in a junvenile facility.

In the early years in prison she was belligerent and a continual trouble case. Apparently things went from bad to worse because after 4 years snapped. She beat a guard, nearly to death, with the handle of the mop she was using. She was sentenced to 15 more years for that.

When she returned from an extended stint in solitary, word amoung the guards was that she was broken. For the next 10 years she surrounded herself with quiet women and never caused trouble again. November 4th, 1997 she was released on good behavior.

Since then, she has found herself a dump in Innman Square to live in and she works doing night stocking and bagging in the Porter Square Star. She spends a great deal of time biking (or bumming rides) to Middlesex Fells where her Familiar lives, or so she says. The familiar is a redtailed hawk that appears to be about a year old. Once meeting the rest of you, she will split her free time about evenly, at least at first, between Liberty and the Fells.

Her avocation appears to be that of a storyteller and collector. She listens far more than she speaks, and when she talks she invariably has a story to illustrate her point. When she is formally storytelling, she tells some stories that she says she learned as a child - Abenaki and Wampanoag tales of old. But she also tells tales of prison, and of the people she meets and the things she hears. She often says, "Everything has a story to teach, if you just listen hard enough."

Avon has done a great job developing stuff for Rachel. It's all right here.
