User Review: Windstopper neck protector that doesn'tMotorcycle & Gear Notes, Reviews, Links and Resources Windstopper neck triangle
I was really pleased with my Aerostich wind triangle, except that being rather thick, it would really limit head movement if i put it up under the edge of my helmet. With this in mind, i purchased a wind triangle made of GoreTex's "windstopper" fabric -- light, thin, elastic edges, seemed perfect for fastening around my chin to keep it from freezing in a new england winter. Keeping your neck warm is critical -- remember, the neck is a fantastic heat exchanger and a great way to get hypothermia at eighty miles an hour. However, "windstopper" is more of a claim than a reality. By itself, it's not quite useless, but damn close. It's useful as an addition to the Areostich wind triangle -- the aerostick protecting my neck and the windstopper protecting the bottom of my chin. Head mobility somewhat restricted, but not too much. Still, it's enough of a hassle to add that most of the time i'd rather a cold chin ... but when it's really cold out, it's not a bad thing to have around. Just don't rely on it as your sole measure once the temperature drops below 45 degrees F and you get going past 50 mph. By itself, in the cold, at highway speed -- it's nigh useless. downwardspiral.net © 2001–2007 robert mohns | |||||||||||||||||||||||||
